【Li Ka-shing's Legendary Watch Heritage】Li Zezhuo Personally Reveals the Secret Behind His Wristwatch: A Gift from Dad When I Was Promoted to Managing Director "Worn for Over Twenty Years"
In Hong Kong’s business world, watches are often more than symbols of status; they are reflections of family values. Li Ka-shing, founder of CK Hutchison Holdings, is known for his understated and precise Japanese brand Citizen. However, upon his eldest son, Victor Li, assuming an important position, he chose a more meaningful and collectible Swiss luxury watch brand—Audemars Piguet—as a “coming of age” gift.
Victor Li’s heartfelt gesture: wearing a watch he has had for over 20 years as a promotion gift
During CK Hutchison’s earnings presentation, when asked about his wristwatch, Victor Li candidly revealed that the watch has been with him for over twenty years and was a gift from his father, Li Ka-shing.
Victor Li emotionally expressed, “Unknowingly, I’ve been wearing this watch for over 20 years, and I’ve held the MD position for over 20 years.” Records show that Victor Li took over as Managing Director of CK Hutchison in 1999, and this watch has witnessed him leading the group through a quarter-century of ups and downs.
Rare Audemars Piguet AP Regulator Museum Collection
Unlike the highly sought-after Royal Oak series on today’s auction scene, Victor Li’s watch is a more understated piece with historical significance—part of the Regulator Museum Collection (a three-hand, single-line design).
Produced in the 1990s, this watch is heavily influenced by Art Deco style. The rectangular case design is refined, measuring approximately 37x26mm (including lugs), paying homage to classical aesthetics of high-end watchmaking in the 1990s. Its most distinctive feature is the “three-hand single-line (Regulator)” layout: the hour, minute, and second hands are positioned on different axes, a design inspired by ancient marine chronometers, emphasizing precise time reading.
According to watch experts, this series is mostly crafted in 18K rose gold, yellow gold, or white gold. Some later models have “Museum Collection” engraved on the case back with a unique serial number. Such models are extremely rare among Audemars Piguet’s modern non-Royal Oak pieces, reflecting the low-profile yet discerning taste of the Li family.
