IT House, February 26 — Tesla Vice President Tao Lin today posted an article discussing the difference in the number of components between traditional fuel vehicle engines and Tesla electric drive units — a typical internal combustion engine has hundreds or even thousands of parts, while Tesla’s electric drive contains only about 20.

Tao Lin believes that the simpler the structure, the lower the complexity, and the less likely to fail. Every subtraction in design is an addition of technical capability. Simplicity and strength, minimalism and precision, are the fundamental advantages of Tesla electric vehicles.

According to previous reports by IT House, on January 8 this year, Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory produced its 5 millionth electric drive system. Tesla officials stated that the self-developed integrated electric drive system, which combines the motor, gearbox, and inverter, offers higher energy conversion efficiency, a more compact structure, and lighter weight.
