ByteDance Reportedly Sells Moonton Technology for 46.8 Billion
Mainland China “Jiemian News” reports that Saudi Arabia’s Savvy Games Group has recently reached a final agreement to acquire all shares of Mouton Technology for over $6 billion (HKD 46.8 billion).
The two parties began negotiations in the second half of 2025, with key terms reaching consensus earlier this year. Industry analysts believe that Savvy aims to fill gaps in its Asian gaming market presence through this acquisition, while Mouton’s strong foothold in Southeast Asia will help Saudi Arabia quickly enter emerging Asian gaming markets and enhance its global gaming industry footprint.
Founded in 2014, Mouton Technology has developed games such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Watcher of Realms, and Silver and Blood. The company was acquired by ByteDance in 2021, with reports indicating the purchase price was $4 billion.
According to Zhang Yunfan, head of ByteDance’s gaming division, in an internal memo to all Mouton employees today, ByteDance will provide multiple incentive plans based on the company’s historical performance contributions, and will introduce new attractive incentive schemes based on future performance. The memo emphasizes that after the transaction is completed, Mouton’s management structure will remain unchanged, with Zhang Yunfan serving as CEO of Mouton Technology.
Sources close to ByteDance indicate that due to significant investments in AI and rising chip prices, the company’s overall profits have begun to decline since Q4 last year. Selling Mouton is seen as a good deal and also demonstrates ByteDance’s commitment to focusing on AI as its core strategic direction.
