Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup OpenAI announced the launch of GPT 5.4 mini and nano, the most powerful small-scale models currently available. Additionally, according to CNBC, OpenAI is expected to complete its initial public offering (IPO) as early as Q4 this year.

Speed improvement of over two times

OpenAI states that the models perform better in programming, reasoning, multimodal understanding, and tool usage, with running speeds more than doubling. They also retain many advantages of GPT 5.4, making them suitable for handling high-traffic workloads.

GPT 5.4 mini is available through API, Codex, and ChatGPT. The cost is $0.75 per million tokens for input and $4.50 per million tokens for output. Currently, GPT 5.4 nano is only available via API, costing $0.20 per million tokens for input and $1.25 per million tokens for output.

According to CNBC, to prepare for the IPO, OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar is assembling its finance team, having previously hired former Block Chief Accounting Officer Ajmere Dale and former DocuSign CFO Cynthia Gaylor. According to LinkedIn, Gaylor will be responsible for investor relations. Fidji Simo, CEO of the app, stated at a company-wide meeting last week that the company aims to help enterprises and “actively shift” toward high-productivity use cases.

Consumers and enterprise businesses each aim for half

OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022, which now has over 900 million weekly active users. Facing competition from other players, the company continues to aggressively capture market share, especially among enterprise clients. Simo pointed out that the current opportunity is to convert these 900 million users into high-performance computing users, with the goal of transforming ChatGPT into a productivity tool. The company previously projected that total revenue by 2030 would exceed $280 billion, with consumer and enterprise businesses each contributing half.
