National Market Regulation Departments Promote Special Campaign to Address Prominent Issues in School Canteens
In 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation continued to deepen the special rectification of prominent issues in “campus meals,” continuously improving the safety standards of food on school campuses and achieving positive results. Market regulation departments at all levels carried out comprehensive supervision and inspections, overseeing a total of 921,000 inspections of primary and secondary school, kindergarten cafeterias, and off-campus catering units. They identified and rectified 755,800 hidden safety hazards, filed and investigated 17,800 illegal cases, imposed fines and confiscations totaling 55.41 million yuan, included 41 entities on the list of serious illegal and dishonest conduct, and transferred 2,807 violations and disciplinary clues to disciplinary inspection and supervision authorities. Additionally, in accordance with the “full allocation where possible” requirement, a total of 223,000 food safety directors and 370,000 food safety personnel have been appointed in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens nationwide, achieving precise risk prevention and control at the “smallest work units.” Currently, all primary and secondary school cafeterias nationwide are equipped with “three defenses,” cleaning, and disinfection facilities, with a basic 100% equipment rate. The number of foodborne illness cases in schools has decreased for four consecutive years. (CCTV News)
