Optoelectronic chips: The key opportunity for domestic computing power to achieve a "leapfrog" advantage?
1. The First Domestic Optical Interconnection Optical Switch GPU Super Node Solution Unveiled:
Last Friday, at the China Appliance and Consumer Electronics Expo 2026 (AWE 2026) in Shanghai, Xizhi Technology, Biren Technology, ZTE Corporation, and Shanghai Electric Group jointly announced the country’s first optical interconnection optical switch GPU super node solution.
The four companies collaborated to develop a complete technical pathway: optical switch chip + domestically produced GPU + data center network + computing power cluster. The core of this system is a new AI computing architecture: using optical switching networks to connect hundreds or even thousands of GPUs into a large-scale computing cluster.
2. Core Breakthrough: What is an optoelectronic chip? What pain points does it solve?
An optoelectronic chip, simply put, is a semiconductor device that uses photons (rather than electrons) as information carriers for transmission, processing, or exchange. In the “Guangyue Super Node,” the key application is silicon photonic switch chips.
Traditional AI clusters (such as those based on NVIDIA H100/B200) mainly rely on copper cables and electrical switches for GPU communication. As model parameters reach trillions, this “electrical interconnection” architecture encounters physical limits.
