Bahrain Aluminum, which owns the world’s largest single-site metal smelting plant, has begun phased shutdowns to conserve raw material supplies.

The company stated that it has initiated shutdown procedures for three production lines, accounting for a total of 19% of its annual capacity of 1.6 million tons.

Like other aluminum smelters in the Middle East, this state-controlled company is facing disruptions in metal exports and alumina raw material imports due to the actual halt of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
