【World's Richest Man】Tesla's Musk with $6.54 Trillion Net Worth Lives in Simple House in Texas Mother Reveals: Refrigerator Has No Food, Bathroom Has Only One Towel
Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk recently topped the global billionaire list with a net worth of $839 billion (approximately HKD 6.54 trillion). However, this wealthiest person on Earth lives in a very modest and small residence in Texas, completely overturning the public’s impression of billionaire luxury living.
Challenging the Image of a Billionaire: Simple Living Near SpaceX Starbase
Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, recently shared a photo on social media showing Musk’s humble home near the SpaceX Starbase launch site. The house has no luxury decorations, only basic furnishings, a few chairs, a rocket model on the coffee table, and a samurai sword.
Maye humorously shared: “Garage sleeping, only one towel in the bathroom”
▲ Maye reposted the picture
She humorously recounted her experience staying at her son’s house: “There was no food in the fridge at Elon’s place. I slept in the garage on the right in the picture. The bathroom only had one towel, and I left it for Elon.”
She then reminisced: “When I was a child, I spent three weeks in the Kalahari Desert and never took a shower. Many times, it was like that—there was no water at all. I think my parents made me used to this kind of ‘luxurious’ life.”
It’s worth noting that Musk’s residence in Boca Chica, Texas, has long been a topic of discussion. The renowned American author Walter Isaacson, who previously wrote Musk’s biography, once publicly shared this photo, which sparked widespread online debate about the modest home.
Fulfilling the 2020 Promise: Selling Luxury Homes to Pursue Minimalism
This small house in Texas is not just a PR stunt; it’s a promise Musk made years ago. In 2020, Musk posted a simple statement on X (formerly Twitter): “I am selling almost all of my physical possessions. I will no longer own any real estate.”
That statement drew some skepticism at the time, as billionaires are typically known for sprawling estates and luxurious mansions, not minimalist living environments.
However, Musk followed through. He sold all his properties in California, moved his headquarters to Texas, and focused on working for SpaceX, with his life centered around the Boca Chica launch site. He abandoned large mansions and chose a house near the rocket launch pad.
The actual living situation matches Maye’s description: the house contains only basic cabinets and essential facilities, with no luxury decorations associated with vast wealth.
