Kodiak and Bosch are deepening cooperation in autonomous freight vehicles

Kodiak AI, a leader in autonomous freight transportation, has announced a new strategic partnership with global automotive supplier Bosch. This joint effort aims to transform traditional trucks into fully autonomous vehicles. The collaboration was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in early 2026 and marks a significant milestone in the adoption of autonomous technology in today’s freight industry.

Developing Autonomous Technology in Freight

Kodiak is at the forefront of creating autonomous vehicles tailored for rugged roads, industrial complexes, and defense sectors. The company has already developed a complete self-driving platform, including braking systems, steering mechanisms, sensors, and onboard computers with advanced safety features. In early 2025, Kodiak began operating its driverless trucks in a pilot program for Atlas Energy Solutions in the Permian Basin.

Currently, Kodiak has delivered 8 of its vehicles out of an order for 100 units from Atlas Energy, working alongside Roush Industries to customize autonomous trucks. After going public through a merger with Ares Acquisition Corporation II SPAC in mid-2025, Kodiak has laid a broad foundation for integrating autonomous technology into the freight industry.

Technical Foundations of the Kodiak-Bosch Partnership

The solution provided by Bosch centers on key components—advanced sensor systems and steering mechanisms—that support autonomous operation. These technical supports enable any manufacturer to convert semi-trailers into autonomous vehicles. Kodiak founder and CEO Don Burnette emphasizes that these solutions can be installed both at the factory and by third-party providers:

“Through our partnership with Bosch, we are able to deliver modular, user-friendly, and more integrated autonomous driving systems—whether installed during manufacturing or afterward,” Burnette said.

Paul Thomas, President of Bosch North America, views this collaboration as a strategic opportunity for significant growth in the freight market. He believes that by continuing to supply these systems, both companies are contributing to the modern phase of autonomous freight transportation.

Commercial Applications and Future Directions

Kodiak’s autonomous trucks are already operational in real-world conditions. This deployment has shown promising results for system integrators like Atlas Energy Solutions, Roush Industries, and other freight companies. Kodiak and Bosch aim to expand the deployment of their developed solutions and increase market share, though they have not yet announced when they will fully commercialize or mass-produce the new autonomous systems.
