United Nations Special Rapporteur on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights, Professor Ben Saul of the University of Sydney, Australia, said in a media interview on the 3rd that the military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran are illegal and constitute an act of “aggression” as defined by international law. In an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Saul stated that the actions of the US and Israel against Iran violate the fundamental rule of the post-World War II international order: “not to invade or attack other countries.” Saul said that many countries dislike their opponents possessing strong weapons, but that does not mean they have “any justification to preemptively attack other countries and kill innocent civilians in the process.” The practices of the US and Israel violate international law and make the world less safe.
