(MENAFN) Early Saturday, the US Embassy in Baghdad was targeted in a rocket attack, according to reports citing local security sources.

The attack reportedly destroyed the embassy’s C-RAM air defense system “completely,” a system designed to intercept incoming rockets and other projectiles.

No information has yet emerged about casualties, and US authorities have not released a statement regarding the incident.

Tensions in the region have intensified since late February, when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on Iran, resulting in roughly 1,200 fatalities, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
