Paris Nuclear Energy Summit Calls for Developing Safe and Affordable Nuclear Power

Over 30 countries, including France, China, Canada, and Japan, issued a joint summit statement titled “Making Safe and Affordable Nuclear Energy Beneficial to All.” The statement said these countries reaffirm their firm commitment to positioning nuclear energy as a strategic asset to meet the growing global electricity demand. Nuclear energy helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the energy and industrial sectors, ensures energy security and diversification, and promotes long-term sustainable development as well as a clean, just, and equitable energy transition. The statement pledged to continue promoting technological innovation, further improving the performance, safety, and economic efficiency of nuclear power plants, especially by restarting long-shutdown units; enhance the resilience and security of the global nuclear industry and its supply chains; actively promote participation of enterprises and stakeholders at the local level, as well as capacity-building initiatives; strengthen international cooperation, and share experiences and knowledge in related fields.
