Social Rules and Etiquette

1. When someone invites you to dinner, don't rush to agree. First ask "Who else is coming?" to avoid awkward or ineffective social interactions;
2. During conversations, listen more and speak less, especially in unfamiliar settings. Silence often appears more composed than endless chatter;
3. Don't publicly contradict others, even if they are wrong. Saving face for others also leaves you a way out;
4. When asking for help, first offer a benefit before making your request. Empty words won't persuade anyone to help you;
5. When receiving a gift, always give a return gift. The value doesn't have to match, but your attitude must be appropriate;
6. Don't easily judge others' lives, work, or choices. You don't know what they've been through behind the scenes;
7. At the dinner table, toast elders, leaders, or distinguished guests first. Keep your glass lower than theirs as a sign of respect;
8. When someone makes a self-deprecating joke, don't agree or laugh along. Instead, offer a compliment to ease their embarrassment;
9. Don't lend money casually, and don't borrow money easily. Money can damage relationships;
10. When friends get promoted or become wealthy, sincerely wish them well. Avoid asking for details to prevent seeming jealous;
11. In the workplace, avoid complaining about your boss or the company to colleagues, as it might reach their ears;
12. When giving advice, be concise and don't force others to accept it. You won't bear the consequences;
13. When someone asks for help, do what you can. If you can't, refuse directly. Don't leave things ambiguous and delay others;
14. Remember people's names and preferences. Mention them proactively next time you meet to show you care;
15. Don't speak ill of others behind their backs. The world is small, and there are no secrets forever.
