The boss I had a falling out with a few years ago got promoted last month.
A few years ago, I had a conflict with my department leader and basically had a falling out. Last month, they came to me and said they wanted to promote me.
I had already guessed the conditions—they want me to take charge of this current business area and act as a responsible person. Basically, they couldn’t find anyone else to do the work, so they asked me to step in.
Thinking back over these years, I’ve been focused on investing, just doing enough at work to get by. I usually just brew coffee, make tea, and stay silent about big and small matters, which has basically marginalized me. Suddenly being asked to take on this role feels a bit uncomfortable.
In the end, I agreed. First, I thought that even if I didn’t accept, this role would probably still be mine, at least in the short to medium term. Second, if I find the workload too heavy, the cost-benefit too low, or if it affects my investing, I can always resign. It’s like a cheap option.
