[Caixin] The focus on edge AI continues to be a hot topic. At the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, smartphones, PCs, wearables, home appliances, and robots all attempted to become new entry points for AI. Compared to previous years, this year’s exhibitors emphasized not just large model capabilities but also how to run AI locally on devices and embed it into specific use scenarios.

Transsion’s subsidiary TECNO showcased a modular magnetic attachment concept phone that received the most attention at MWC. The device has a thickness of 4.9 millimeters, with a simplified basic configuration, mainly expanding functions through external modules. Optional modules include stackable battery modules, each with about 3000mAh capacity, camera and handle modules, telephoto lenses, external microphones, speakers, makeup mirrors, and more. The phone and modules feature magnetic arrays and contact points on the back; when the module is close to the device, it automatically attaches and completes power connection, with data transfer via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or millimeter-wave technology.
