Beijing Chang'an Avenue Landscape Enters "Spring Festival Mode"

China News Service Beijing, February 7th (Reporter Xu Jing) On February 6th, the State Grid Beijing Electric Power City Lighting Management Center (referred to as “Lighting Center”) completed the setup of the Spring Festival landscape decorations along Chang’an Street and its surrounding areas, entering the “Spring Festival mode” along with the lanterns and lights in Beijing’s urban area.

That evening, as the lights on Chang’an Street first lit up, the crowds watching the flag-raising ceremony in Tiananmen Square had just dispersed. Many tourists were still taking photos and enjoying the night view of Chang’an Street.

According to the Beijing Electric Power Company, this year’s landscape decoration on Chang’an Street continues to focus on the core sections, including 121 sets of Chinese-style lanterns installed along the east and west sections from East Single to West Single, totaling 242 large red lanterns; 431 iron pole lamps and 862 Chinese knot decorations installed from East Single to Guomao Bridge and West Single to Xinxing Bridge; and 100 string lights set up around Beihai Bridge.

The lanterns and Chinese knots used this year are made of PETG material, which is durable, wear-resistant, and low-temperature resistant. All lightboxes use energy-saving LED lights, offering advantages of energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and long lifespan. The landscape setup strictly follows the principle of “reuse and recycling,” adhering to a frugal and eco-friendly concept. The large red lanterns, Chinese knots, and string lights used are all from last year’s installations. Statistics show that the reuse rate of lanterns and decorations this year has reached 90%.

“In addition to inspecting the appearance of the lanterns, the wiring inside the lamp posts is also a key focus for us. With the Spring Festival approaching, visitors to Tiananmen Square are still coming in large numbers, so we must ensure the safe operation of each lantern,” said Liu Quanshui, a member of the Lighting Center’s lantern team. For the lighting facilities of lanterns and surrounding areas in Tiananmen Square, the Lighting Center has strengthened special inspections and patrols to ensure the safety and stable operation of the city’s lighting equipment in that area.

At the end of January and early February this year, the Lighting Center actively implemented the deployment requirements of the Beijing Municipal Urban Management Committee, proactively coordinated with and fully supported the district management committees and streets in all six urban districts, promoting the connection and lighting of street lamp facilities for the Spring Festival landscape decorations, helping to create a lively and festive Chinese New Year atmosphere in the six urban districts.

During the Spring Festival, the Lighting Center has carefully deployed support forces, strengthened the monitoring and protection of urban lighting operations and Chang’an Street landscape lighting, and increased patrols and maintenance around crowded places and transportation hubs to ensure the safe and stable operation of city lighting equipment.
