Many people previously claimed that there was no corruption in the United States, but that was naive. Corruption in the US is also quite shocking, just in different forms and degrees.
The large-scale fraud case involving Minnesota's social welfare programs is estimated to involve over $9 billion.
This corruption/fraud scandal mainly stems from a series of investigations that erupted at the end of 2025, focusing on the systematic theft of federal funds (especially 14 high-risk programs such as Medicaid, child nutrition programs, housing stability services, autism services, etc.).
The core source is the "Feeding Our Future" children's meal program fraud during the pandemic, which has led to 78 indictments and 57 convictions, involving approximately $250 million (one of the largest pandemic relief fraud cases in US history). Since 2018, the total expenditure on Minnesota's 14 public welfare programs has been about $18 billion.
In December 2025, federal prosecutors stated that half or more of the funds (about $9 billion) might have been defrauded, describing it as an "industrial-scale fraud."
Many of the involved parties are Somali Americans (Minnesota has the largest Somali population), with some of the funds used for luxury cars, mansions, and overseas transfers.
