BNB Chain is preparing to upgrade performance with the Fermi hard fork

Abstract generation in progress

BNB Chain is preparing for a significant performance upgrade through the Fermi hard fork, transitioning from the testing phase to mainnet deployment on January 14th. The upgrade reduces block time from 750 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, supporting time-sensitive and high-frequency applications such as exchanges and payment systems.

Fermi also introduces a new indexing feature, reducing data and hardware requirements, allowing users to access only the necessary data instead of the entire transaction history. Governance voting parameters are adjusted to help validators coordinate more effectively. Currently, BNB Chain processes about 200 transactions per second and aims to increase throughput, narrowing the gap with traditional financial systems. The Fermi hard fork improves user experience, supports DeFi, and enhances the speed and scalability of BNB Chain.
