Everyone, who understands! When I saw the message "Do Kwon was arrested and hid a Trezor hardware wallet in his rectum, containing 10,000 Bitcoins," I almost spilled my coffee on the keyboard. Is this really treating the crypto community like a web novel? I've been in this circle for eight years, seen many outrageous rumors, but never one as absurd as this—completely contradicting physiological common sense and riddled with logical holes. Today, let's thoroughly analyze the origin and development of this rumor, and also discuss some common tactics used to spread false information in the crypto world, so everyone doesn't get misled and end up paying the IQ tax.
The timeline goes back to March 2023. The core figure of the Terra/Luna collapse, Do Kwon, was arrested in Montenegro, and as soon as the news broke, the crypto community exploded. After all, this guy previously claimed "I will never run away," but then he was caught trying to escape with a forged passport, which was such a stark contrast that it provided fertile ground for rumors to grow. Not long after, the story of "hiding a wallet in the rectum" started circulating across various communities and forums. Some even vividly fabricated details like "discovered during customs inspection" and "hardware wallet model is Trezor Model T," making it so realistic that people almost believed it.
But just thinking a little logically, this story fundamentally doesn't hold water.
First, from a physiological perspective. No matter how small a Trezor hardware wallet is, it’s about the size of an adult thumb, and it’s made of hard material. Trying to shove it into the rectum? Not to mention whether it can be inserted, the pain caused by movement inside the body would be unbearable for most people. Was Do Kwon trying to escape or self-harm?
Looking at the amount of money involved. 10,000 Bitcoins, worth billions of dollars in March 2023. Would such a large amount of assets really be stored in a hardware wallet the size of a fingernail? Anyone with common sense knows this is simply illogical. More importantly, if such an amount of assets were truly seized, it would have been reported extensively by major media outlets, and wouldn’t just circulate quietly within communities.
