The U.S. House of Representatives just passed this year's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with an overwhelming vote of 312 to 112. Now it’s up to the Senate. But there’s a dramatic twist — the previously agreed-upon ban on central bank digital currencies (CBDC) was nowhere to be found at the last minute.
This has outraged the hardline factions within the Republican Party. Back in July, the party leadership had assured these conservative members that the CBDC ban would definitely be included in the NDAA. The debate over whether to restrict the issuance of digital currencies by the central bank seems destined to continue on Capitol Hill.
