GameFi Hits Hard Times: Most Projects Gone

Abstract generation in progress

Look at these numbers. Over 2,100 web3 games have shut down since GameFi began about five years ago. That's a massive 75.5% of all projects. Gone. Dead. The math is kind of depressing - three out of four web3 games don't make it.

Year after year, same story. Between 2018 and 2023, around 80.8% of these games failed annually. Crazy high.

The wider web3 world isn't doing so badly though. Seems investors still believe in something. They poured $9.6 billion into web3 startups just in Q2 2025. Money keeps flowing.

Web3 security is actually booming. It grew almost 91% with over 200 companies now. Not all sunshine though.

Access control problems? Big issue. These security holes have been wrecking projects for years. The situation isn't entirely clear, but the gaming side of web3 appears to be in real trouble.
