Eric Adams, the Mayor of New York City, has recently expressed contentment with his choice to receive a portion of his earnings in digital currency, as Bitcoin's value has climbed to nearly $100,000 in the current year. During a media briefing held on Tuesday, Adams reminisced about the initial skepticism he encountered when he first opted for cryptocurrency payments, remarking, "Think back to when everyone mocked my decision to accept my wages in Bitcoin. Now, who's having the last laugh?"
When Adams assumed office in early 2022, he transformed roughly $30,000 of his initial quarterly salary into Bitcoin and Ethereum. His most recent financial report reveals that as of late 2023, the worth of his Bitcoin assets fell within the $5,000 to $54,999 range. Adams isn't the sole public figure adopting this approach; Francis Suarez, the Mayor of Miami, and Christophe De Beukelaer, a Belgian Parliament member, have also embraced Bitcoin as a form of salary payment. This trend signifies a growing acceptance among government officials to consider cryptocurrency as a viable compensation option.
