My 5-Minute Chart Trading Strategies That Actually Work

I've been in the trenches of scalping for years now, and let me tell you - it ain't for the faint-hearted. Most newbies jump into 5-minute charts thinking they'll make quick cash, only to get absolutely wrecked by market volatility. After blowing up a couple accounts (yes, plural), I've finally nailed down three strategies that have consistently put money in my pocket.

1. The EMA-RSI Combo

This is my bread and butter. I use three EMAs - 9, 55, and 200. The 9 EMA catches immediate price movements while the 55 acts as mid-term support/resistance. That 200 EMA? It's my trend filter - stay above it in bulls, below in bears.

But here's where most traders fuck up - they use standard RSI settings. I've tweaked mine to use a 50 centerline instead of the typical 30/70. When price crosses the 9 EMA while RSI confirms direction from the 50 line, that's when I pull the trigger.

I hunt for explosive moves that catch other traders with their pants down. The 20 EMA works beautifully here - it's responsive enough without giving false signals like those ridiculous 5 or 8 period EMAs some "gurus" recommend.

The secret sauce is watching the MACD histogram - not the lines, just the histogram. When I see a strong divergence between price action and the histogram, I get ready. Those moments when everyone's leaning one way and the market violently snaps back? That's my sweet spot.

3. Triple Threat: EMA + MACD + Bollinger

This system uses 5 and 20 EMAs combined with standard Bollinger Bands and MACD. I don't just blindly enter when indicators align - that's amateur hour.

Instead, I wait for price to touch a Bollinger Band, then check if it's respecting the 5/20 EMA dynamic. MACD confirmation is my final checkpoint. Most traders lose because they chase every signal. I'm selective as hell - maybe 2-3 trades daily, but they're quality setups.

Look, these strategies work but they require serious screen time. The market will punish hesitation and reward decisiveness. I've watched countless traders fail because they couldn't pull the trigger when everything lined up.
