On September 11, the State Council Information Office held a series of themed press conferences on "High-Quality Completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan," introducing the achievements in health and wellness work during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period and answering questions from reporters. Lei Haichao, director of the National Health Commission, introduced that the health level of Chinese residents has been continuously improving. According to statistics, by the end of last year, the average life expectancy of Chinese residents reached 79 years, with 8 provinces having an average life expectancy exceeding 80 years. The infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate have continuously improved, and the health level of residents has steadily increased. "If we look at historical comparisons, the average life expectancy in 2024 has increased by 1.1 years compared to 2020, which is also a good improvement for developing countries," said Lei Haichao.
