Tidal Waves in Hong Kong: Conflux Founder Long Fan Discusses the Adherence to Public Chain Technology and the Path of Compliance

On May 15th, the Conflux Digital Finance and Ecosystem Development Conference was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Professor Long Fan, the founder of Conflux Network, made another appearance in the public eye. This Tsinghua University alumnus, MIT PhD, and current professor at the University of Toronto has rarely accepted media interviews in recent years, quietly leading his team to advance Conflux as the only compliant public blockchain in China through technical exploration and global expansion.

In the face of the RWA boom, the surge of Memecoins, and the accelerated development of stablecoins, the pace of the blockchain industry is faster than ever. How does Conflux maintain its technical focus amidst this? As the only compliant public chain in China, what long-term considerations lie behind Conflux's compliance identity?

In this exclusive interview, Professor Long Fan systematically shared for the first time his path choices, independent judgments on industry trends, and advice for young developers.

The original intention of entrepreneurship and the technological foundation of Conflux

Professor Long Fan stated that the identity he hopes to be remembered for the most is that of a computer science researcher. Whether as the founder of Conflux or studying at MIT and teaching at the University of Toronto, all are parts of this identity.

When discussing the positioning of Conflux, Professor Long Fan pointed out that Conflux has always insisted on being a high-performance public chain based in China or Asia, aspiring to become an important infrastructure in the era of Web 3.0. This has been the direction determined by the team since 2018 and has been consistently upheld.

In terms of technical advantages, Professor Longfan emphasized that Conflux has achieved high performance of 3000-6000 TPS without sacrificing decentralization and security. Since the mainnet launch, it has maintained zero security incidents, reflecting the stability and credibility of the architecture.

Compliance: Long-term beliefs and path choices

Professor Long Fan believes that Conflux becoming the only compliant public chain in China has historical reasons. This was not "strived for", but rather the result of the team's insistence on a path of compliant development. Many teams choose to give up due to short-term considerations, while Conflux is willing to bear the high compliance costs and is more restrained in its decision-making.

He stated that the team has always believed that Compliance is achievable and is willing to work hard for it. As a technology-oriented team, they believe that a normal development path can be established domestically through communication and reaching a consensus with regulatory agencies.

Regarding the role of Hong Kong, Professor Long Fan believes that Hong Kong can now be seen as a "special zone" for blockchain, serving as an important pilot area for China in blockchain technology. In Hong Kong, various applications can be legally developed without concerns about policy risks. This brings a significant advantage in compliance cost for projects.

RWA and Memecoin: The Survival Laws of Two Extremes in the Blockchain World

Professor Long Fan believes that RWA is not a bubble, but an important step in the industry's process of overcoming regulatory barriers and seeking new narratives. The shift from "stablecoins" to "RWA" is essentially an ongoing internal correction and upgrade of narratives within the industry, reinterpreting blockchain applications in a way that is easier for the outside world to understand and accept.

Regarding Memecoin, Professor Longfan compares it to "gambling in the era of cryptocurrency," believing that it reflects humanity's ancient desire for risk and excitement. He points out that the evaluation of this phenomenon depends on individual attitudes towards "gambling" and should not be overly criticized or attacked.

Adhere to the technical route and ecological construction

Professor Longfan stated that Conflux will continue to adhere to the technical route of "Asian high-performance public chain." Unlike many teams that closely follow market trends, Conflux adopts a more restrained and steady strategy, believing that long-term investment will ultimately yield returns.

For new developers entering the industry, Professor Longfan recommends choosing a direction based on individual and team circumstances. He points out that there are mainly two styles in the industry: one is rapid iteration and chasing trends; the other is choosing a direction for long-term investment. The key is to find the path that suits oneself best.

In terms of ecological construction, Conflux is more inclined to support teams that are truly willing to land, invest, and have clear long-term plans. It hopes to establish stable cooperative relationships with them to jointly promote the continuous growth of the ecosystem.
