Expansion of the Solana Ecosystem: Opportunities and Challenges for Web3 Game Developers
Web3 Game Developers Discuss the Expansion and Challenges of the Solana Ecosystem
Web3 game developer Chris shared his entrepreneurial journey in the Solana ecosystem and his outlook for the future. As a co-founder of Mirror World and Sonic, Chris's experience showcases the rapid changes and adaptability required in the Web3 space.
Chris's work experience at ByteDance and RCT AI laid the foundation for his entry into the Web3 space. He noticed the high cyclicality and volatility of the Web3 market, which prompted him to adopt more flexible strategies in managing his team, keeping the core team lean and expanding quickly based on market demands.
During the development of Sonic, Chris and his team identified three main challenges: the diversity of game assets, the limitations of computing resources on the Solana chain, and the lack of game distribution capability. To address these issues, they collaborated with the Solana Foundation to develop the SVM extension chain Sonic, specifically designed for gaming services.
Chris pointed out that Solana's scalability is different from Ethereum. Solana already has high TPS and low transaction costs, and its scalability is more to meet the needs of specific areas such as gaming, DeFi, and AI. Sonic's Hypergrid framework aims to provide proprietary chains for different fields through horizontal scaling, enhancing the performance and scalability of the entire ecosystem.
However, developing Layer 2 scaling on Solana also faces challenges. It is necessary to assess which areas truly require independent scaling chains, while also addressing technical issues such as codebase splitting and maintenance. Chris emphasized that the rapid development of the Solana ecosystem requires developers to remain flexible and ready to respond to new challenges.
Chris is optimistic about the future of Web3 games. He noted the improvement in the quality of current game content and users' willingness to pay, anticipating that more fully on-chain games will emerge in the future. Chris believes that with technological advancements and market maturity, Web3 games will achieve breakthroughs in gameplay and asset innovation.
Overall, Chris's experience highlights the dynamism and innovative potential of the Web3 space, particularly the opportunities and challenges in game development within the Solana ecosystem.
