Long term Bitcoin holders continue to accumulate

  • The long term investors' Holdings have increased by 635,340 BTC since January. This pace exceeds the amount sold off by short term investors, resulting in an accumulation ratio of 1.38:1.
  • Despite the recovery in the price of Bitcoin, 2.6 million BTC remain in a loss state due to selling pressure from investors who bought at prices exceeding $95,000.

Short-term holders (SHT) are selling 1 Bitcoin (BTC) for every 1.38 BTC that long-term holders (LTH) accumulate, showing a clear sign of LTH commitment as the largest cryptocurrency continues to recover.

Since hitting the bottom in January, LTH has accumulated 635,340 BTC, bringing the total Holdings to 13,755,722 BTC. According to Glassnode data, LTH refers to investors who have held Bitcoin for more than 155 days, and they tend to accumulate during bearish periods and sell during bullish periods.

Going back 155 days, it dates back to around November 20, when the price of Bitcoin surged from $65,000 to $95,000. Many investors who purchased during this surge are now transitioning to long term holders, backing up their decision with strong conviction. Despite a 30% drop from Bitcoin's all-time high of $109,000 (recorded in January), many LTH continue to hold.

Bitcoin has recovered above $90,000 after hovering below $90,000 since early March, but many coins still have unrealized losses. There are about 2.6 million BTC in unrealized losses, which is about half of the peak of 5 million BTC earlier this month, but still represents a large unrealized loss. Many of these coins were purchased during a period of surge above $10.
