Analysis: The number of cryptocurrency "Rug Pull" incidents decreased in 2025, but the scale of losses per incident increased significantly.

According to Deep Tide TechFlow news on April 18, citing research from DappRadar, the number of cryptocurrency Rug Pull incidents is expected to decrease by 66% year-on-year by 2025, dropping from 21 incidents at the beginning of 2024 to 7 incidents this year. However, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the Web3 ecosystem has lost nearly $6 billion due to Rug Pull incidents, compared to only $9 million lost in the same period of 2024.

DappRadar analyst Sara Gherghelas pointed out that unlike the Rug Pull incidents that occurred mainly in decentralized finance protocols, non-fungible token projects, and meme coins in the first quarter of 2024, the Rug Pull incidents in 2025 will be mainly concentrated in the meme coin sector. She emphasized that although the frequency of Rug Pull incidents has decreased, their destructiveness has increased, and the scamming methods have become more complex, often orchestrated by teams with well-designed branding and complete narratives.
