Trump Claims US Intervention Saved the Middle East from Iran's Nuclear Threat
Donald Trump claims that the US military and diplomatic interventions are the only reasons Israel and the Middle East still exist today. In a press conference at the White House on Tuesday (5/5) local time, Trump stated that the US was forced to prioritize stopping Iran's nuclear ambitions over other domestic agendas. He emphasized that any progress in the global economy would be meaningless if the stability of the region fails to be maintained from the potential of nuclear war.
On the other hand, Trump also showed a more lenient stance by stating he does not want to pursue further violence. He urged Iran to make smart decisions because the US does not want to carry out military operations that result in many casualties.
"We don't want to go in and kill people. I don't want that, because it's very heavy," Trump said, while maintaining pressure through more flexible engagement rules in the Strait of Hormuz.
Besides geopolitical issues, Trump briefly touched on his popularity by claiming 100% support from the Republican Party based on data he cited from CNN. Although the report actually referred to the MAGA supporter base, Trump still used that figure as a form of legitimacy for his hardline policies against Iran.
