FTX liquidates Anthropic shares, missing out on a 165x return
Techub News reports that, according to Cointelegraph, if the shares of Anthropic previously sold off by the bankruptcy cryptocurrency exchange FTX’s liquidation team had been held until now, they would be worth $82.3 billion, a 165-fold increase from the initial investment, accounting for more than 70% of its missed total assets.
Anthropic, as a major competitor to OpenAI, has rapidly risen in the generative AI field with its Claude series large language models. The company’s valuation has soared from approximately $500 million at the time of FTX’s investment to over $80 billion today. This case highlights the explosive growth of AI startups over the past two years and also reflects the huge losses caused by the premature disposal of high-quality equity assets during FTX’s bankruptcy liquidation.
