United Nations: About 5.4 million people in Haiti face severe hunger
On October 12th, according to the latest 'Comprehensive Classification of Food Security Phases' report released by the United Nations, the escalating gang violence and political turmoil in Haiti have led to approximately 5.4 million people facing severe hunger, with nearly 6,000 people experiencing famine. The report points out that the surge in hunger is mainly due to the frequent violent incidents in the capital city of Port-au-Prince and its surrounding areas, which have severely disrupted food supply and access. The prolonged closure of the main port in Port-au-Prince has exacerbated food shortages and raised prices. High inflation has further increased the pressure on ordinary families to purchase food, worsening the crisis.
