China accuses the United States of black eating black, orchestrating a Bitcoin Mining Pool LuBian hacker attack.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Chinese cybersecurity agencies have accused the US government of orchestrating a Bitcoin theft worth approximately $13 billion, attributing the major LuBian cyber attack at the end of 2020 to the US.
China accuses the United States of black eating black and planning the LuBian attack.
LuBian was once one of the largest Bitcoin mining companies in the world. In 2020, LuBian was hacked, resulting in the theft of over 5,000 wallets and a total loss of more than 127,000 Bitcoins. At that time, the price of Bitcoin was still low, valued at around 3.5 billion USD, but according to today's market price, it has skyrocketed to over 15 billion USD, making it one of the largest cryptocurrency heists in history.
The United States claims that these tokens are related to Chen Zhi, chairman of the Prince Group in Cambodia. Recently, the United States and the United Kingdom joined forces to launch the largest operation in history against a massive Southeast Asian crypto scam network. The U.S. accused Chen Zhi of participating in a telecommunications fraud conspiracy and money laundering activities, and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) seized Bitcoin worth approximately $15 billion.

A report released last week by the China National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center stated that this hacking attack was likely led by a “state-sponsored hacking operation” from the United States. The process of transferring the stolen Bitcoin was low-key and delayed, consistent with characteristics of government-level actions rather than typical criminal behavior.
The U.S. government may have used hacking techniques as early as 2020 to steal 127,000 Bitcoins held by Chen Zhi. This is a typical “black eats black” operation planned by a state-level hacking organization.
The Chinese government has recently strengthened its accusations against the US government regarding cyber attacks.
The Chinese government has recently strengthened its accusations against the U.S. government regarding cyberattacks. Earlier this year, China claimed that the U.S. used vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange servers to attack Chinese companies. Last month, the Chinese government stated that it had “conclusive evidence” of the U.S. launching cyberattacks against China's National Time Service Center. However, Bloomberg reported that China's accusations are often vague and lack the detailed evidence that the U.S. provides when accusing foreign adversaries of cyberattacks.
Lawyer Chen Zhi requests to trace the seized Bitcoin.
Chen Zhi's lawyer submitted a letter to the U.S. court this week, requesting more time for Chen Zhi to trace the Bitcoin stolen from LuBian. The lawyer stated that the U.S. government's accusations against Chen Zhi are “seriously misleading.”
“As we explained in the documents submitted to the court, we are working closely with cryptocurrency experts to trace the Bitcoin seized by the government more than a year ago, which was stolen in 2020.”
According to the indictment released by the prosecutor last month, Chen Zhi is currently not in custody of the U.S. authorities.
