Jin10 Data, November 11th: A Turkish prosecutor has demanded over 2000 years of imprisonment for Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu in a corruption case, potentially barring the strongest challenger to President Erdogan from participating in the next presidential election. The 3,900-page indictment names 402 suspects and describes Imamoglu, the most prominent opposition figure, as the “founder and leader of a criminal organization.” Charges include bribery and corruption. Following the news, the Turkish stock market plummeted, with the Istanbul benchmark index falling 3.1% by the local afternoon. The index is heading toward its largest daily decline since early September.
