OpenAI collaborates with Luxshare to develop a dedicated AI device, targeting the billion-dollar smart speaker market.

China's major Apple Supply Chain manufacturer Luxshare Precision (Luxshare) surged approximately 10% on the Shenzhen stock market on 9/22. According to foreign media reports, OpenAI has signed a collaboration protocol with Luxshare to develop a consumer AI device centered around ChatGPT, which is expected to be launched as early as the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027. The market also suggests that Luxshare is assessing a secondary listing in Hong Kong within this year, indicating that its AI deployment and capital plans are accelerating in sync.

OpenAI accelerates hardware deployment to compete with Apple's Siri

According to reports, OpenAI has negotiated and signed a cooperation protocol with Luxshare to jointly develop a dedicated consumer AI device. According to informed sources, Luxshare has already begun creating prototypes, and this product may be a smart speaker without a screen, focusing on voice interaction services, directly competing with Apple's Siri device. OpenAI's target timeline is to officially launch the first device by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Luxshare's stock price is at a pump, and the market expresses high expectations.

After the news broke, Luxshare Precision's stock price hit the daily limit on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on 9/22, pumping about 10%, bringing its cumulative increase this year to approximately 55%. Due to the limits on daily price fluctuations in the Shenzhen stock market, this limit-up indicates that the market has quite high expectations for this collaboration.

At the same time, the market has also reported that Luxshare is evaluating a secondary listing in Hong Kong within this year to further expand its international capital raising space.

OpenAI targets the smart speaker market worth billions, actively recruiting talent.

OpenAI is actively entering the hardware market, targeting the rapidly growing smart speaker opportunity. Research indicates that the global smart speaker market size is expected to reach $19.62 billion by 2025, and further rise to $36.48 billion by 2032, demonstrating remarkable potential.

To seize this trend, OpenAI has recruited former Apple hardware design executive Tang Tan (Tang Tan) to lead its hardware department and has acquired io Products, founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive, for $6.4 billion. At the same time, it is negotiating with Chinese supplier Goertek (Goertek) to provide speaker modules, and last November, it hired the former head of Meta's Orion project to lead its robotics and consumer hardware business, as well as investing in the robotics startup Physical Intelligence, demonstrating a strong layout in hardware and robotics.
