Golden Finance reports, on April 8—US President Donald Trump local time on Wednesday morning, in an ABC News interview, said that after announcing a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, the United States may seek to form a joint project with Iran to protect the security of the Strait of Hormuz. When asked whether it would allow Tehran to collect shipping fees for passage through this strategic waterway, Trump said: “We are considering implementing it as a joint venture. This is a way to protect the strait— and also a way to prevent many other countries from getting involved.” Trump added: “This is a very wonderful thing.” Trump also said that he would not allow Iran to retain any uranium enrichment capability, despite Tehran repeatedly claiming that it would not give up the freedom to do so. Trump said that the US military in the region would also not withdraw, implying that they would stay on site to carry out any future agreements reached. Trump expects peace talks to begin on Friday and to be advanced quickly.
