On October 29, according to Politico, the U.S. government shutdown has lasted nearly a month, and the situation seems to be finally changing. The impending key deadlines, along with external pressures, are adding new urgency to the bipartisan discussions that have been stalled for weeks. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and his Senate allies, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and other House Republican leaders appear increasingly convinced that more and more moderate Democrats are ready to compromise on a temporary funding bill to mitigate the impact of the shutdown, possibly as soon as early next week. Republican leaders are discussing a new temporary funding bill, with dozens of proposals currently on the table, including providing temporary funds for the government until around January 21 or as late as March.
