Trump meets with leaders of both houses of Congress to discuss avoiding a government shutdown.

On September 30, U.S. President Trump met with leaders of both houses at the White House at 3 a.m. to discuss avoiding a government shutdown. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer stated that there are significant differences between them, and Trump has heard their objections. Schumer said that whether the government shuts down is up to the Republicans. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries indicated that it was an honest discussion and that the Democrats would not support Republican legislation that harms healthcare. House Speaker Johnson stated that he hopes to allow more time for negotiations. U.S. Vice President Vance said that the talks with the leaders of both houses were "candid" and should not lead to a federal government shutdown due to differences. Previously, Senate Democrats considered proposing a temporary funding plan for 7 to 10 days to avoid a government shutdown. Senate Minority Leader Schumer stated that he would not accept a temporary funding bill for 7 to 10 days. (Jin10)
