NBA Champion Tristan Thompson is set to visit the Korea Blockchain Week and launch the player tokenization Basketball.fun before the start of the season.
NBA champion Tristan Thompson launches player tokenization basketball.fun
Tristan Thompson stated that he will launch a new app basketball.fun before the NBA season in October, collaborating with the public chain Somnia and its development company Improbable. The platform will tokenize NBA players and fluctuate based on real-time emotions and performances. Fans will be able to build rosters, speculate on potential rookies, and earn rewards through predictions and participation.
Tristan Thompson stated in a press release: "This is our way of experiencing moments together, it's not just about basketball. We are creating something for fans that goes beyond the game itself, where your presence, passion, and participation truly matter."
Improbable co-founder Hadi Teherany added: "Fans' evaluations and perceptions of players should differ from those of team owners and the media. We are trying to give power back to the fans, not just to predict who is great, but to actually receive rewards based on these judgments. Imagine if the consensus on a rookie's potential is more accurate than that of the team's management; this can be demonstrated through basketball.fun."
Improbable is the development company of the public blockchain Somnia, which raised $150 million in 2022 at an undisclosed valuation, led by a16z and the SoftBank Vision Fund, with other investors including Ethereal Ventures, Mirana Ventures, DCG, and SIG Haina Asia Venture Capital Fund.
Drawing from previous entrepreneurial experience, the TT guarantee for new projects focuses on gaming experience and sustainability.
Basketball.fun will not issue a native Token upon launch, Tristan Thompson stated that this is a lesson learned from the previous project TracyAI. The NBA star, who is also a Web3 serial entrepreneur, launched the AI sports analytics agent TracyAI last year, and he pointed out that TracyAI relied too heavily on Token performance. This time, the focus will be on infrastructure, gamification, and sustainability.
Interestingly, Tristan Thompson has his own speaking time at this year's Korea Blockchain Week (KBW).
