MACD showed a very obvious exhaustion signal. Furthermore, this position itself was a typical triangular wedge oscillation - originally the price should move in whichever direction volume and price break out. In a ranging market, I should have gone short at the upper band and long at the lower band (with take profits also near the upper/lower bands), not make directional predictions in advance! Additionally, combined with the MACD exhaustion signal, I should have first considered a bearish bias for the larger direction.
